Dr. Florence Galletti is a research fellow in public law at the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), a French public scientific research institution, since 2004, a lecturer in international law of the sea and the public maritime domain in various faculties of science and law, and an appointed member of the Research Commission of the Academic Council of the University of Perpignan Via Domitia, as “external personalities representing a research organisation”. She has been working closely with marine science since 2009 and has participated, prior to this campaign on the Saya de Malha Bank, WIO (S.A. Agulhas II), in the FFEM/IUCN project (2014-2018), Conservation and sustainable use of seamount and hydrothermal vent ecosystems in the south-western Indian Ocean beyond areas of national jurisdiction, and in its oceanographic campaign on board the Marion Dufresne in 2017.
It is cooperating with the Nairobi Convention on the Indian Ocean Governance Strategy 2023 in the context of the forthcoming new treaty on high seas biodiversity (BBNJ).
