L’Echo des Labos n°7
L'écho des Labos n°7, by Stéphane Dugast, special correspondent.
Recalcitrant float !
Aft deck of L’Agulhas II. Less zen than the rest of the team, Thomas Jessin has his ear literally glued to the float. He’s waiting for the beep, which signals that the machine is working properly and ready to go.
Beep… beep… beep!
The operation is underway! With the float up and running, I can calmly go and interview Hervé Claustre, head of the float mission. Hervé is a renowned oceanographer. He was even behind the launch of this international float program.
The protagonists
Hervé Claustre, Director of Research at the CNRS and based at the Villefranche-sur-Mer Oceanography Laboratory.
He is co-leader of the international BGC Argo project.
This program aims to deploy a flotilla of multi-instrumented profiling floats in the global ocean.
Invaluable tools for taking the pulse of the ocean and better understanding its workings.
