Despite the containment measures imposed by the development of the Coronavirus – COVID-19 epidemic, Monaco Explorations remains mobilized to continue preparing future missions and, with all our partners in Team Monaco, to continue working in the service of the Ocean and society.

We would like to share with you the words of our Managing Director, Robert Calcagno, on the closure of the Oceanographic Museum, for which he is responsible as Director General of the Oceanographic Institute:

“As you probably know, the Monaco Oceanographic Museum has been closed to the public since Sunday morning.
La Ocean House in Paris closed its doors on Tuesday morning.

We remain mobilized and at your service to carry the voice of the Ocean on our social networks and our website, and of course in solidarity with society.

Most of our staff have now returned home under confinement.
However, a small team dedicated to the smooth running of our aquariums and museum remains mobilized to take care of our fish, reptiles and invertebrates, in strict compliance with health and prevention regulations.
The aquariology, technical and reception departments are staying on course to welcome you as soon as the health crisis is over.
The rest of the team is confined to their homes and is available to listen to your needs.

We believe that keeping in touch with you on our networks will keep you entertained, inspire you and bring you ever more knowledge about the marine world.
Loving and protecting the oceans remains fundamental in these times.
Our societal models are based on immediate consumption and performance.
Our societies are extremely competitive, and think of themselves as hyper-powerful; but the sad reality of the Coronavirus reminds us of our fragility and the unsustainable nature of this model.

Let’s take this time of confinement today to question how we and society function.
How can we ensure that Nature, climate and biodiversity are preserved “whatever the cost”?
Let’s think about how to react to both immediate and slow-onset disasters, because we all need to act together, with the ambition of making the protection of Nature and the Ocean a global, effective and sustainable issue, for the well-being and health of humankind! “
